Bio

I was only three years old when my mother noticed me watching myself in a mirror as I moved with music. Her placing me in a dance class that same year sparked a life-long love affair with rhythmic movement. By age five I was performing for audiences and continued to perform for over 16 years. As a grade-schooler I often choreographed intricate dance acts and directed entire circuses for my mother’s daycare children to perform when their parents arrived to pick them up. When asked what I wanted to be when I grew up the answer was always the same: “a dance teacher”. High school brought drama classes and school plays changing my performances from moving with music to speaking with emotions. College brought me back to dance productions this time as a performer and a choreographer. My final season there ended with my  big production number as the show’s finale. Then adult life kicked in and responsibilities took hold and I lost sight of the thing that mattered most to me. Dance. It took me four years and an introduction to the Burning Man community for me to realize what I had lost and was so desperately missing. Having mastered jazz and tap dance and dabbling in ballet, modern, swing, hip hop, ballroom, and breakdance I was enthralled with my discovery of hoopdance. I instantly felt a longing to be up on that stage with the first hoopers I encountered. A few months later I left my job as a successful business manager with the intention of going back to my roots. I enrolled in hoopdance classes and felt an instant connection and love for the art-form. Six weeks into my new practice I attended my first hoop retreat, Movement Play, with Miss Rosie. I boldly decided to attend her small meeting for people interested in becoming teachers. Upon hearing Miss Rosie’s own story I felt intensely inspired. I became a Certified Hoopdance Instructor through the Hero Hoops (formerly Hooliehoop) company a month later. Since then I have felt a joy and a drive in my life that had long been missing. I am passionate about hoopdance and am extremely grateful that I am able to share my passion with you.
